Provide offline mode for CAM

Per a previous request which was claimed to be "resolved," yet it is not:

http://support.camwebapp.com/forums/252939-ideas/suggestions/10987476-offline-mode

That is not OFFLINE mode, GUEST mode shouldn't be broadcasting. Please resolve it.

The log I have has over 10,000 intrusion attempts made by CAM alone. I will not unblock the software as it absolutely does not need network access to your servers.

The issue is not solved or completed as you claim it to be.

Still not resolved. If you want more than an hours information about your own PC components, you need to give into NZXT's ransom demands and hand over your email address or social media account, and all of your system information, then upload everything you ever do with your computer. It is absolute madness.

I expect this shit from free online services, but not from premium hardware manufacturers.
This company has no scruples and the only conceivable reason to do this is so they can sell your data.

Just installed this and It's the very same version I already had installed, 3.3.5 even though the last version installed said it was 3.3.5 and this installer you mentioned today, Aug 14th say's 3.3.50.

So looking at the change log, which states 3.3.5, claims the very same fixes, so why has this got an extra "0" on the end and had no changes to the 3.3.5.

Confusing, to say the least, still some errors and issues I've found, however, I've learnt this has become the norm with NZXT and the CAM Software.

As soon as my new cooler arrives with the RGB strips Etc, I'll be saying goodbye to NZXT products, I doubt things will change, though, I will add the upload data mining has been reduced drastically. though you're still mining data, you've made some acceptable improvments.

        Thank You

I'd very much like to know if any attempts have been made to FIX this issue where you make us sign in for the Full features of the CAM Application?

At the end of the day NZXT, We the customers have paid a lot of money for NZXT goods and to have your application data mining our Builds and forcing us to sign into the application for access to all benefits of the software is not acceptable and is actually Unethical of you to do so!

Claiming that we can sign in via the guest option should not exist at all, giving that we've paid hard earned money for these devices and giving that we have, should entitle us to the FULL Benefits of the software without any form of data mining or restrictions in the use of features.

Now, I'm sure I speak for anyone who has used the CAM software here, ... Has NZXT come to any form of conclusion on this Subject?

If so, would you kindly explain to us what it is you are going to do about it...

        Thank You

Yes I see that, I re-posted it as well. It seems they just don't give a fuck about spying on us and closing tickets that they don't want to deal with.

How about a server that doesn't require maintenance after CAM logs you in the first time?

        The EULA states the following:

        4. COLLECTION AND STORAGE OF DATA.
If you are logged in to your NZXT account while using the Software, NZXT shall have the right to collect data relating to you, your PC, and your usage of the Software, which data may include personally identifiable information (the "Data"). If you are using the Software while not logged in to your NZXT account (such as in "guest mode"), NZXT shall have the right to collect the Data, but the Data will be anonymized. You hereby consent to NZXT's collection of such Data, and to the storage of such Data by NZXT in cloud-based and non-cloud-based databases, for business purposes only. You hereby grant NZXT a perpetual, sublicenseable, worldwide right and license to use the Data for its business purposes only. NZXT respects the privacy of your Data, and NZXT will NOT transfer the Data to third parties except in anonymized form.

Part 7 talks something about "trade secrets". No idea what that shall mean...

        Soooooo....
Are you guys telling me that i just bought a product which i cannot use without to accept this EULA?

This needs to be properly stated on your products, that you're forcing your customers to show they most private data which you're mining together on your customers PCs.

All i wanted was a simple CPU cooler with cool colors.
I don't care about anything else. And i doubt anyone else expects that when buying a CPU COOLER!

NZXT seems to be one of the major scum companies... what a shame.

This is like buying a house and to be able to move in you will have to sign a contract which states that there are 1000 cameras installed in it, and you can only enter it if you agree that you will be recorded at any given time.
But of course, you will be told about this contract after you've paid already.

        Great Job Guys
The more attention this gets in the public the more your company will go down under.

        @Bob,

No one signed any agreement. There are users that DO NOT sign in because of NZXT's blatant stupidity. Again, read what you had posted: "4. COLLECTION AND STORAGE OF DATA. If you are logged in to your NZXT account while using the Software" is explicitly for those who log in and provide NZXT their email address to store their data. Furthermore, just by placing a clause at the end of the license agreement for user's utilizing "Guest" mode doesn't entitle NZXT to squat. This information wasn't presented to the customer prior to purchasing their hardware. If it were many of us would have decided to not use NZXT hardware and looked elsewhere for actually better hardware and software. I can name several vendor's who do not involve themselves in this crap... and those businesses have been in the water-cooling industry far longer than NZXT. In any case NZXT is a preemie baby to the industry.

Many user's here are requesting NZXT to provide an OFFLINE mode. NZXT reserves zero right to collect data against our will, especially when we do not log in, for a tool that is required to operate hardware.

Also this data "collection" also hinders those on data cap plans, which CAM takes the vast majority of their bandwidth. Do you know how to read a wireshark log? I doubt it... since you'd discover that CAM utilizes nearly GB of data and bandwidth a month, not to mention it contacts multiple servers every 1second or less. How about NZXT start paying us for the data and bandwidth they are stealing!

If NZXT does not fix this and provide us users an OFFLINE mode, then one of us will start a class action.

      • Bob commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

This is taken out of there license agreement as you can see they are mining people's data and users are accepting it. This is unlikely to change. I would suggest blocking cam executables from being able to connect to the internet. I was about to install CAM until i saw this in the license policy. They are even ok with mining PII information.

        4. COLLECTION AND STORAGE OF DATA. If you are logged in to your NZXT account while using the Software, NZXT shall have the right to collect data relating to you, your PC, and your usage of the Software, which data may include personally identifiable information (the “Data”). If you are using the Software while not logged in to your NZXT account (such as in “guest mode”), NZXT shall have the right to collect the Data, but the Data will be anonymized. You hereby consent to NZXT’s collection of such Data, and to the storage of such Data by NZXT in cloud-based and non-cloud-based databases, for business purposes only. You hereby grant NZXT a perpetual, sublicenseable, worldwide right and license to use the Data for its business purposes only. NZXT respects the privacy of your Data, and NZXT will NOT transfer the Data to third parties except in anonymized form.

nzxt doesn't answer any post because they don't care. you think its bad here read their subreddit and search for things like outgoing connections, people asking to remove hardware monitoring crap, and of course customer service which is horrible. people have asked nzxt to change things and you may as well shout at a brick wall.

they're not going to remove anything so block it with your firewall and if the version you have works for you then don't upgrade because every version is worse than the last.

      • d33m0n533d commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Amazing how no one from NZXT has answered ANY post relating to the data-mining going on in the background.

If All these connections were just to "back up" profiles and configurations to the "cloud", there wouldn't be a need for so many different end addresses as well as connections.

I have Synapse installed from Razer, and that does exactly what is described as "baking up profiles and hardware data" and that uses ONE outgoing connection maybe ONCE a day on boot up for no more than 30 seconds at a time...

CAMWARE on the other hand has multiple connections outgoing, and I've logged over 10gb of data spread out over all those different outgoing connections in ONE DAY!!! (mind you, I only have a HUE+ installed, so I don't need the software to
back up" anything, I keep CAMWARE in "guest mode" which SHOULD NOT be going online and uploading anything, let alone the amount of data I see it sending out after a given period of time!

I've sniffed out some info that was easy, like e-mail address used to log in to the account, other login info, some data as to my CAMWARE config (leds strips connected, patterns set on each channel), but what is all the other encrypted data going out? I never gave permission for this, and CAMWARE never asked, this is NOT legal...

      • d33m0n533d commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

The newest released version of CAM is even worse! (I don't understand how it's newer than the 3.3.1 I was already running, but I guess they revised it and kept the same version #)

Still making outbound connections to multiple servers and sending out gigs of data... this is SPYWARE at it's best... no need for a piece of software to connect online just to control fan/pump speeds and lighting. Let the software store the profiles locally and there is no need to EVER go online for anything; but that is how they keep that function included, "it's just simple telemetry data and profile information"... BS... not 10gb worth...fix this shit NZXT, or refund me my costs for the hardware I can't control without this Spyware!

here is a screenshot of my CAM running in "OFFLINE" mode...

        http://i.imgur.com/mQth7RB.jpg

I'd like to know what the hell CAM is sending to all these different servers when it's not even supposed to be online... NZXT needs to release the info on the data being collected...this is BS...
