Hue 2 Ambient mode - average color of screen rather then edge detection.
Just like the descriptions says. I'd like an ambient mode that averages the color of the screen rather then edge detection. Kind of like Phillips hue sync.
Agree. Edge detection too extreme. Should do what huestacean does with Phillips hue lights. Takes an average of a thicker portion of the edges, but NZXT can use advantage of being able to spread that average throughout the individually addressable LEDs.
I want to make a quick differing opinion edit. I think it should still be "edge" detection and not average color of entire screen. I just think it should be a thicker edge. Right now it feels like it's based off the 2% rows/columns of pixels that make up the edges. Unlike what Gerald says, I don't think it should exclude edge pixels, but just average a larger portion. Like 20 %.
Again....people at NZXT, check out homemade software huestacean. I actually like it's color choosing algorithm better than NZXT Hue 2 Ambient, but all Phillips Hue software breaks G-Sync, an you're limited to light bars that can only display a single color instead of mixing colors across a screens edge. Only reason I'm gonna hold on to NZXT and hope for more imporvements/customizations options.

Yes, great idea. The egde detection is too extreme, a little pop-up in task bar change the color for example.
Or perhaps we can choose a smaller part of screen for color detection (something like : exclude 0 to 200 pixels from borders).
