H7 Quad Lumi / Hue+ save LED setting to device hardware/firmware
New H7 Quad Lumi owner here and new to the NZXT family of products, and I’m a bit frustrated to learn that the CAM software does not save the LED configuration settings to the device’s non-volatile memory and that the device resets back to the default white at every startup if you choose to configure your USB ports to not provide power 24/7.
Here’s the thing, I do not want my H7 and RGB usb mousepad to light up 24/7 even when the computer is off. Leaving the LEDs on 24/7 would greatly reduce their lifespan as LEDs get dimmer over time, and after a year or two of running constantly they would be significantly dimmer. There is no reason to have them run 24/7 so I configure the BIOS for deep sleep mode to cut power to USB when computer shuts down.
This of course results in the H7 resetting to default white at every startup until CAM loads. I found a post from NZXT employee saying this is intentional, they choose not to save the settings to the device because they fear people will save their settings too many times and exceed the write endurance on the built in flash memory.
We as the owners should be at lest be given the option to save the settings to the device if we want to, through CAM or through a small executable, with the knowledge their could be a limit. Flash memory should allow hundreds if not thousands of writes, and I don’t have to save it to the device every single time I make a change, but I do want the option to commit changes to memory when I’ve settled on a long term configuration. I shouldn’t have to load CAM at every startup just because I want to save the lifespan of the LEDs by not running them 24/7.
